The Sardinian flora is typically Mediterranean, bearing however several peculiar aspects, such as the primitive yew, holm-oak and holly forests. Sardinian fauna differs considerably from its Italian counterpart: its prolonged geographical isolation has enhanced the presence of local species, such as the Sardinian deer, and others shared with North Africa, including the Sardinian partridge or Sardinian wild cat. The coastal ecosystem is particularly fascinating: in the peace and quiet of the early hours of the morning the magnificent flamingos with their red-rimmed wings can be viewed whilst flying proudly towards the sky.
