Festival of Saint Efisio - May 1st

On May 1st a cheerful colourful procession departs from the church of Saint Efisio in the old Stampace quarter in Cagliari and heads for the small Romanesque church of Saint Efisio in Nora. The religious procession, conceived as a means of thanking the saint for saving the community from the plague in 1657, constitutes a singular opportunity to admire the precious traditional costumes hailing from all around the island.

Girotonno – from May 29th to June 2nd

For tuna experts this rendezvous in Carloforte, on the last Sunday in May, is an opportunity not to be missed. Internationally renowned chefs take part in a competition revolving around this tasty fish that implicates the involvement of journalists, experts of Mediterranean specialties and mere food lovers. A four-day event aimed at performing a thorough analysis of the cultural, artistic and enogastronomic traditions of the village, including tasting sessions, music and shows, all of which embrace the village in a festive atmosphere.

Estate Mariese (Summer in Domus de Maria) – from July through to October

From July to September the municipality of Domus de Maria offers visitors a series of exhibitions of local art and artisan crafts together with tasting of typical products. In early October the Festival of S’Arroseri is celebrated in honour of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary, patron saint of the village. Not to be forgotten are the numerous festivals revolving around gastronomy and the typical traditional products that take place in the village between July and August, the most renowned of which undoubtedly remains the Fig Festival, celebrating the fruit typical of the Chia area.

Narcao Blues - from July 21st to 24th

This Festival consecrated to the renowned form of American music takes place in Narcao, a small village immersed in the Mediterranean nature of the Sulcis region.

Mauritan Wedding - August 1st

A picturesque rite celebrated in Santadi on the first Sunday in August. The bride and bridegroom, dressed in traditional Sardinian costumes, travel on typical oxcarts, finely decorated for the occasion, to reach the main square of the village where the religious rite of African origin takes place. The blessing imparted by the mothers of the newlyweds is the most important moment of the event, culminating in the breaking of a dish full of wheat grains, rose petals, grains of salt and coins symbolising abundance, happiness, wisdom and wealth. 

Medieval summer in the Iglesiente region - August

Throughout August the historic centre of Iglesias, a pretty little town in the Sulcis region, acts as the background to commemorations of battles, evocative historical corteges and solemn religious processions.

Sant'Anna Arresi Jazz - from August 24th to 30th

Over the last twenty-four years, the international festival “Ai confini tra Sardegna e Jazz” (The boundary between Sardinia and Jazz), a prestigious event seeing the participation of the biggest names on the world Jazz scene, has been organised in the suggestive setting of Piazza del Nuraghe in Sant’Anna Arresi.
